Because I have nothing better to do, and my iTunes is on, in the hope that music hath charms to tame the wild jackhammers.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line or so from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. . . . except that I'm going to skip all of the ones that don't have words or have words I don't understand. Of which there seem to be a great many today. Also, I'm going to skip hymns and anything else really well-known where the name is the first line, like "Oh, what a beautiful mornin'".
Step 3: Bold/Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.

1. I think this one's entirely instrumental, hang on . . . "I can see a swath of sinners sitting yonder" Learn your lessons well, Godspell, [livejournal.com profile] rumorofrain
2. And this one's in a language I don't understand . . . "Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find"
3. Okay, this songs-without-words-I-understand is getting a bit ridiculous. . . "Wandering child, so lost, so helpless"
4. "Nobody wants to hear about Vanessa"
5. "Father, hear thy children's call; humbly at thy feet we fall."
6. "Don't cry, mother dear, don't worry for me. If we must go begging, a beggar I'll be."
7. And after two more instrumental pieces, "Camelot, the town that never sleeps is Camelot!"
8. "When wilt thou save the people?" God save the people, Godspell, [livejournal.com profile] rumorofrain
9. "Damn the passion, damn the skies, damn the light that's in her eyes - I know too well where it has lead before!"
10. "There is a castle on a cloud." And I'll lump the next one with it, "One day more; another day, another destiny, this never-ending road to Calvalry." Les Miz, [livejournal.com profile] vorindi
11. "Hakuna Matata - what a wonderful phrase!" [livejournal.com profile] vorindi
12. "I am a dino with a low, low voice"
13. after some humming, "Where has the starlight gone? Dark is the day."
14. "Did you see them, going off to fight?" Les Miz, [livejournal.com profile] vorindi
15. "Shepherds are coming. Are you ready? Yes, I'm ready."
16. "There's been some confusion over rooming here . . ."
17. "My days are brighter than morning air, evergreen pine and autumn blue."
18. "Lovely Rita, meter maid" Lovely Rita, the Beatles, [livejournal.com profile] rumorofrain
19. Okay, much as I like show X, I'm not going to put any more songs from it on this list. There are too many already. . . . "The lord above gave man an arm of iron, so he could his work and never shirk."
20. "I get no kick from champagne, mere alcohol doesn't throw me at all." I get a kick out of you, [livejournal.com profile] vorindi
21. "The farce has ended, the curtains drawn, and I at least pretended that love was dead and gone."
22. "In the light of a virgin morning, I look out on a misty haze."
23. "You see the border of her coat is torn and stained with sand."
24. "Come now and gather in the glade where the emerald stream and deep in the shade" (or something like that)
25. Wait, this is the same as 15! . . ."Why don't we stop fooling ourselves? The game is over."

I was going to say that this seems to be an excellent example of the portions of my iTunes library that comes from one particular person - and then I realized that that's silly, because I have almost no music that's actually my own (and most of that is instrumental), so any one of these things is going to heavily feature music I got from somebody. The one thing I will say in my defense is that I do actually have more variety in my music than I seem to based on this list.

I just realized that it's raining. And I think the jackhammers have stopped. So I'm going to go cook.

And yes, I do have things to post to the Spain journal - I'm just lazy and haven't gotten around to it.

ETA If you've heard the song enough to be able to product lyrics other than the ones I've provided, I think that it's acceptable to Google those.

10. Castle on a Cloud and One Day More. (And didn't you say you weren't doing ones with the name in the first line?)
14. Turning

I've heard a few others, but I'm not sure of the titles.

Might. Let's see.

11. Hakuna Matata. (I'd've had this yesterday, except for the "no lines with titles in them" bit . . .)
20. I Get a Kick out of You. (And those would be the lyrics I Googled . . . This is very anticlimactic.)

I don't think I know any of the others, although I'm fairly certain I've heard of 18, but I'm sort of curious about them. Also I want to play this now.

Sometime when I'm not supposed to be doing homework.

1. Learn Your Lessons Well, from Godspell (I might have the title wrong, but it's something close to that.)
8. God Save The People, from Godspell
18. Lovely Rita, by the Beatles

The others that I knew have already been guessed. :) Although #5 seems awfully familiar...
