Dear HP,
Your printer is not working. It used to work, and now it doesn't. I'm sure that it's your printer, because I've tried two different cables on a mac and a pc, and it won't print anything. In the course of troubleshooting for the mac, I come to: "Macintosh: Mac OS X V10.5 Print Job Gets Stuck in Print Queue," which looks promising, because it's the trouble I'm having. However, if I actually look at the page, it says things like:
"Step one: Restart the computer
1.
Click Start and click Shut Down .
2.
Click Restart or select Restart from the menu.
3.
Click OK .
4.
After the computer restarts, double-click the Printer icon in the system tray located at the bottom, right of the computer. The print queue opens. If no documents appear in the print queue, the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, proceed to the next step."
and:
" Step three: Determine whether the product is paused or offline
1.
Click Start and click Printers and Faxes . The Printers and Faxes window appears."
FAIL, HP, fail.
There is no Start button on a Mac. These directions are clearly for a Windows computer. And while I know that Windows wants to be Mac, it is not so close that directions for the one will work for the other. Furthermore, I know that the printer is offline, because the computer told me so, so it would be very nice if this section were actually applicable. (Although I suspect that it wouldn't be helpful even if it were right, since I think that the problem is a faulty printer setting, not a computer setting, and the Windows directions deal with computer settings.
This article was NOT HELPFUL.
Again, fail.
And I was in such a good mood after going out for tea, too.
ETA: ALSO, having the On light come on whenever the USB cable is connected to the computer and the printer - without the printer actually being on, and not being able to turn it off or get any other response from it - may be the stupidest feature I've ever encountered or even heard of.
