Dreams

Two nights ago I dreamed that I was one of a group of children/teenagers living under the care of this one guy who may or may not have been someone important. Lots of these children were orphans or Lost Heirs, but there were also a good dash of us who knew who our parents were and were just there for whatever reason anyway. There was some significant event going on somewhere, and the oldest boy, who was sort-of the unofficial leader of the kids, and I, and a couple of our friends decided that we were going to Do Something About It, and so the oldest boy told the random caretaker guy that we were leaving, and random caretaker guy wasn't pleased, but for some reason he let us go anyway (couldn't really stop us?).

So we had some adventures that I don't really remember, and then there was one of those dream-shifts, and we were all a bit older and more experienced, and were furthermore competing with other groups of adventurers to do something-or-other. Find a certain number of Objects, perhaps. At any rate, we had finished some small challenge and saw another group go into some sort of warehouse/industrial building. We watched their lanterns traverse successively higher levels until there was some sort of commotion - we knew it was a fight - culminating in a huge flash of light. We all knew, without discussion, that that was the last we would hear from that group.

Shortly thereafter, we were attacked by a sphinx. It may or may not have been the last remnant of whatever had taken out the other group; I'm not sure. I should probably also mention that also the creature was, in the dream, unquestionably a sphinx, it was not what I would call a sphinx in real life. It had a human head (which, for those of you playing along at home, looked moderately like Whoopi Goldberg), but the rest of it bore rather more resemblance to a large metallic spider wearing a pile of upholstery fabric than anything leonine. Our old friend the oldest boy thwacked some of its legs off with his sword, while I sawed (?) at it with my sling (?) (Don't ask, I don't have a clue). After a bit we had restrained it, and were left with the issue of what to do with a captive monster that looked way too human for comfort. The fact that the sphinx promptly began chatting us up did not help. I've forgotten most of the conversation, but after a while we came to the conclusion that we could probably let it go without fear of it killing us. And some conversation after that, the oldest boy swore fealty to it/her.

"I'm really the queen of the world, you know," the sphinx confided slyly.

"Yes, of course," he replied, "but you can be a little more directly in charge of this part of the world."

"Ah, that works," she replied, and gave him a truffle (the chocolate kind, not the mushroom kind).

The rest of us promptly swore fealty, too.

Nice dream! I love it when I have dreams with real plot to them...or ones I can later take and make into plots. ^_^.
