One of those character question memes

You know the kind - the ones where you choose k characters and then look at the questions. In this case, k=10.

[livejournal.com profile] vorindi wrote the questions.

1 namelesskid
2 Mrs. Matsari - these two both come from the story "Dirt," which was in the Phoenix last year.
3 Marie Richards - a solitary librarian from a vaguely post-apocalyptic future
4 Jaclyn - my river pirate from Victoriana. You've seen her letters, if you've been paying attention.
5 Amity - otherwise known as The governess of DOOM
6 Soothsayer dude - to all appearances, crazy, but deeper than he looks; he's from a plot bunny that showed up the day before yesterday.
7 Mara - a roleplay character that I've had for a while. She does stage magic.
8 Alin - Alin was a wizard's apprentice before he became incorporeal (and dead).
9 Floria/Florian - from a ridiculous situation [livejournal.com profile] tigerlofu and I made up in which his mother disguised him as a girl at birth because of a prophecy. He's now 13 or 14, and serving as a stablegirl.
10 Lady Virtue is from a bit of microfiction I wrote several years ago; she's a sort of Elizabethan femme fatale.

1 and 7 open a restaurant. 5 is their first customer. What sort of a restaurant is it, is it successful, and how does 5 like his/her meal?
Kid and Mara open a diner. The menu is a bit limited; mostly stew and porridge (usually not burnt), with a few sorts of quick-bread and cornmeal pancakes, and various concoctions of vegetables and meats cooked over a fire, plus honey and chocolate syrup sandwiches, hotdogs, pickle relish and peanut butter sandwiches, ice cream with 35 topics, kool-aid pudding, etc. It is _not_ successful. Mara has some business sense, but not the sort that can keep track of a restaurant, and none of her incarnations know how to deal with modern food and grocery shopping. Kid is only 12, and operates under the assumption that everyone wants the sort of foods that his parents disapprove of. Amity decides that the pricing is decent, the food so-so but somewhat boring, and the proprietors excellent people.

3 writes a scathing letter to the editor of his/her local paper. What provoked this?
I think I mentioned that Marie is pretty reclusive. You would probably have to pass a curfew essentially turning her neighborhood into a mini police-state before she would pay enough attention to write scathing letters.

What does 9 want to be when he/she grows up?
Floria(n) doesn't really know. He spent several years wanting to be a cook just like his mother (I mean _just_ like his mother), and only recently realized that there are several problems with this plan. In another year or two it'll probably occur to him that he would really like to be a Stablemaster for a large, rich family or institution.

2, 6, 7, and 10 are presenting a television newscast. Who presents which part (news, sports, weather, etc.) and what happens?
Mrs. Matasari is the anchorwoman/coordinator. Mara does weather, with a flourish. Soothsayer dude presents the news, which is full of explosions and doom and political upset. He also provides a free prediction for the future (more of the same). Lady Virtue is a foreign correspondent is the middle of turmoil that she probably caused (discretely, of course). Either Mara or Mrs. Matsari has a secret fondness for a few sports, and they share reporting on the others because somebody has to do it and neither of the others are going to.

Would 8 rather go sky-diving with 10, or watch a movie with 4?
Alin would _much_ rather watch a movie with Jaclyn. Even if she probably won't notice he's there. He's smart enough to know that doing _anything_ with Lady Virtue is dangerous (even if you're already dead), and that doing dangerous things with her is much, much worse. Also, he isn't old enough to pay attention to the fact that she's rich and beautiful, which is the downfall of some nontrivial subset of the set of all straight men.

3 has to share an apartment with one of the other people on your list. With whom does he/she share and why?
Probably Amity or Mara. Possibly Alin (she's very down-to-earth, and I'm not sure that _she_ would notice Alin, either, but I think she's be okay with the ghostliness. She would have difficulty with the unhappy 8-yr.-old-ghost times, though) or Mrs. Matsari (it depends on how intimidating Mrs. Matsari is out of the classroom - I'm inclined to think that she's a bit too formidable, in her tiny old lady way). But Amity and Mara are both restrained enough that I could see them getting along (though it might take a while for them to actually get to know each other).

2, 5, and 9 are shopping together. Where are they, and what are they buying?
Mrs. Matsari, Amity, and Floria(n) are at a grocery store buying dinner (which is probably oyako domburi (parent-and-child dish; chicken and egg over rice) because Floria(n) is overwhelmed by the whole idea of a grocery store, and while both Amity and Mrs. Matsari have a fondness for children, Mrs. Matsari has more opinions about food than Amity (I think that Amity has a limited repertoire of heathy but somewhat boring dishes because she usually lives in households with a staff, and she never was all that good at cooking, anyway. Good enough, but no great talent or love for it).

1 and 8 have discovered a map to the legendary city of El Dorado. However, the villainous 6 overheard them discussing it in a careless moment and will stop at nothing to get there first. What happens?
Kid and Alin, I have to say, make a pretty awesome team. This is an adventure on the scale of Lloyd Alexander meets Susan Cooper, and it’s a children’s book. It’s a rollicking tale with adventure and courage and disappointments and a really creepy villain, but the children win, of course, using teamwork (Alin has all the magic and kid has the ability to open doors and talk to everyone and stuff) and a member of the secret priesthood in El Dorado is able to revive Alin, so it’s a happy ending.

Who would make a better rock star, 2 or 7?
Between Mrs. Matsari and Mara, I have to say Mara, hands down. Mrs. Matsari may have poise, but Mara has charisma coming out of her ears, and also has useful talents in the field of entertainment.

4 and 9 are in a comic book. Who is the superhero, and who is the sidekick?
Jaclyn in the hero and Floria(n) is the sidekick. Quite aside from the fact that I suspect that this the way their personalities would take them, Floria(n) is used to being the sidekick/minion. I think Jaclyn would be very good for Floria(n). Quite aside from perhaps instilling a bit of spine, she might have useful insights on crossdressing.

If you ask nicely and tell me how many characters you want it for, I might write you a list of questions.
