This is true. But Zambian society in general is so terribly straitlaced. And very, very Christian. Though I guess that I don't entirely understand the sexual mores here. Or, more correctly, I don't really understand how expectations regarding sex interact with the facts on the ground.

And I guess I'm frequently puzzled by the music my neighbors play. One that's really popular, for example, is this one. And I don't have any sense that the music is a rebellion against cultural values and expectations. Popular songs (sometimes with semi-explicit lyrics) are frequently cheek-and-jowl with Christian songs. And that's not even mentioning the ones that I can't tell whether they're praise songs or pop music, 'cause they might be either. . . . though I don't think I've heard any swearing. At least, no swearing in English.

One of these days, I'm going to do that iTunes meme where you post bits of songs, only I'm going to do it with the music I hear over the course of my daily life.
