So on her way back from ConBust, vorindi stopped in Philly, and tagged along with me to work for half a day. My students' reaction?

"Ms. Miriam, is she your daughter?"

. . .

And these are 18-20-year-olds, not third graders.

Did they think you were older than you are, or that she was younger than she is? (Or both?) I still get mistaken for a college student all the time. It used to annoy me, but I'm pretty resigned to it at this point.

(Some of the other students asked if we were sisters.)

I do try to project an aura of being slightly older than I am, because we have less credibility with the students if they thing we're "practically the same age," but I usually go for somewhere in the vicinity of 30, definitely not old enough to have a grown daughter, even supposing we declare that Constance looks like a teenager, which is not something I would usually assume.
